In the early stages of a project, we focus on securing prime locations, grid connections, licenses, and permits, while also engaging in discussions with potential long-term partners. Based on this groundwork, we conduct environmental and social impact assessments to ensure each project aligns with our strict HSSE standards. We then negotiate commercially viable Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) with potential off-takers and begin the plant design process. All project details are compiled into a business case, which is evaluated against our investment criteria. We firmly believe that a well-executed early-stage development phase is key to creating sustainable value.

We leverage our expertise to organize and integrate all project documentation in collaboration with our financing partners, securing equity and primarily non-recourse debt for the project. Meanwhile, further development activities, along with engineering and construction planning, proceed in parallel as we prepare the project for construction. Another critical task is optimizing project cash flows to maximize returns. Once these are finalized with our financing partners, a final investment decision is made, and the project reaches financial close.

During the construction phase, Scatec typically takes on the role of the turn-key engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) provider for the power plant, depending on the project structure and technology. This approach allows us to maintain full control over risk management, cost efficiency, quality, and project progress, while placing a strong emphasis on health, safety, security, and environmental considerations.

Once the power plant is commissioned and begins commercial operations, Scatec typically assumes responsibility for operations, maintenance, and asset management services, all with the goal of optimizing performance. These services are provided under long-term contracts, with pre-agreed commercial terms.

As the owner of the power plants, we ensure they operate in compliance with all requirements. We also manage relationships with stakeholders and provide regular reports to our lenders, partners, and relevant authorities. We receive annual dividends based on the cash flows generated through long-term PPAs or from the sale of power in the energy market.

Throughout the operational life of a project, we seek to generate additional value by refinancing project debt on more favorable terms, as well as through asset rotation, where capital is recycled into new investments in renewable energy.
